The Rewind Therapy is one of the most powerful singular therapy techniques known. It has been used successfully thousands of times to help remove phobias and anxieties, to settle and remove PTSD symptoms from trauma, and can also be used to help remove the negative emotions from memories or experiences such as arguments with spouses or work colleagues, or even disturbing events seen in real life or on news reports.
The Rewind Technique can also help as part of therapy for OCD, and is a powerful tool to use in couple counselling to help remove negative anchors which effects the relationship.
When someone suffers flashbacks, panic attacks, phobic responses, or high levels of anxieties, a small part of the brain called the amygdala is responsible. This is part of the brain which helps activate the fight/flight response when we are in danger. If the ‘fear’ is trapped in the amygdala (there are a number of reason why this might happen) then any trigger can cause the fear feelings to rise again. The Rewind Therapy allows another part of the brain called the hippocampus to calm the amygdala down and allow the experience/event which caused the fear to become a ‘normal’ memory and therefore cause no more panic, anxiety or flashbacks.
The therapy is carried out with your eyes closed so you can make images in your mind that help the brain process a past experience (or a perceived future one) in a way that the mind feels no anxiety or fear about the situation happening. This allows you to feels completely calm whereas once you felt anxious or even experienced a panic attack. The Rewind is safe and you can be in control fully through the process, and when used by a skilled therapist, the results can be quite amazing.
How well does it work?
This 29 yr old female client had suffered with general anxieties for 13 yrs since she was 16. It affected every aspect of her life. She had counselling many years previous but her anxieties had never abated.
After an assessment, a session of the Rewind Technique was carried out. A second session was booked as there were so many anxieties it was felt it might be needed. When she came for this session her life had already changed so much that that session was used for future pacing using some hypnosis. A third session was already pre-booked and used for further support, but it was the initial first session of the rewind that totally removed the template she had for feeling anxious.
This e mail was received some months later. (With permission)
I wanted to get in touch with you to let you know how iv been getting on since its been around two months since my last appointment with you. I think in one of my first emails to you I talked about how the panic consumed me in almost everything, nothing was enjoyable, my social life was non-existent! I couldn't eat, drink, be anywhere too hot or to busy, I didn’t even get my hair cut for two years in case I had a panic before it was finished!! I hated going to places I didn’t know, I needed exit routes planned wherever I went. Life felt very hard and stressful not only for me but for my husband and family too.
I can't even put into words how everything you have done for me has completely changed my life. I've not experienced a single panic since our first session, the anticipation and initial feeling of being to hot literally last seconds now and then completely disappears.
I have been out for countless meals, gone away for two weekends, been to the Olympics, been on a busy and hot underground train in London, had a few to many cosmopolitan cocktails, had my haircut, caught up with friends iv not seen since school and went to a wedding with them all, someone else drove and so I had nowhere to escape too and had countless meetings that at one time would have sent me over the edge!!! I can truthfully say I have not once checked for my exit routes or looked for the ladies toilets as soon as I arrive. I also chucked out my hand fan that I have religiously carried with me everywhere I go for years!
I am no longer that girl!
All I can say is I wish id seen you years ago and thank you so much!!
…I must admit the therapy seemed strange to do, and I didn’t feel sure it had helped in anyway, but just as you said it would, I stepped onto the train and all the fear that normally rises just didn't come along. By the end of the journey I felt calm and at ease……….once again, thank you Tom for all your help……
…Just a quick email to let you know how I got on. I’ve been to the dentist twice now. I can’t say I enjoyed it in any way or form, but I managed to stay calm and he dealt with that painful tooth.
I kept waiting for the panic to kick in and was surprised when it didn’t. I had all those images of big smiley faces in my mind and couldn’t help but feel calm and very much ‘distanced ‘from my old anxiety.
At the time I did question the fee you charged but I can say it was worth every penny!
